I lead the Corporate & Commercial team in helping businesses, charities and social enterprises of all sizes find solutions to their legal needs by providing pragmatic and cost effective legal advice.
Whilst people often assume that corporate & commercial law is all about large, one-off events or transactions such as setting up, buying and selling, restructuring, partnership or shareholder agreements and financing, this is only a proportion of our work and how we help our clients. More often, we are instructed to help with the day to day business challenges, such as helping clients to get paid on time and identifying and mitigating business risks - involving customers, suppliers, staff or regulatory compliance organisations.
I help people who run or manage businesses to better understand their options and achieve their business goals. I also help with employment law issues including Directors’ duties, Restrictive Covenants and in dealing with TUPE transfers.
Prior to joining Burroughs Day, I ran my own legal firm and provided business coaching and consultancy services for other law firms and professional services businesses.
I have also held a number of board and non-executive director roles for social enterprise and third sector organisations, which has given me hands on experience and a full understanding of dealing with business challenges, as well as my knowledge of the law to provide clients with practical advice in plain English.
Outside of the office, I am a noted writer of legal and business articles and blogs, as well as a poor but enthusiastic sailor.
