Religion & Belief

Freedom of thought and religion is a fundamental human right. You must not be discriminated against in the workplace because of your religion or philosophical belief.

Under the Equality Act 2010, ‘belief’ means a religious belief or a philosophical belief. This doesn’t include purely political beliefs or mere opinions. However it does include the lack of religion or belief i.e. it protects individuals who do not have a religion or belief.

In practice the right to practice and manifest a particular religion or belief may bring an individual into conflict with the transitional rules of the workplace. Sometimes there is also an overlap with other unlawful discrimination such as race.

We understand the complexities of unlawful discrimination and can advise you on your rights in your particular situation.

We will always try to negotiate the best possible settlement for you. Very few cases go to a full hearing, because we are experienced in resolving them as early as possible.
