Pregnancy & Maternity Discrimination

Discrimination on the grounds of pregnancy or maternity leave is unlawful.

You have the right not to be discriminated against in the workplace on the grounds that you are pregnant or on maternity leave.

Even if you are not eligible for statutory maternity leave or pay, you may still be protected from discriminatory treatment on the grounds of pregnancy or maternity.

You do not have to have been employed for a minimum period to bring a claim for maternity/pregnancy discrimination.

The Equality Act 2010 protects a wide range of individuals from suffering discriminatory treatment, including employees, soldiers, police officers and some self-employed contractors.

In addition to pregnancy and maternity discrimination, you may have experienced unfavourable treatment amounting to sex discrimination.
